Round-up: blogging tools to Miss Pellings

Some quick notices of things that have particularly struck me in the last week, but I haven’t had time to respond to.

  • First, a quick note that Microsoft have released Beta 3 of Windows Live Writer. This is a superb and free desktop blogging tool, which I’ve been using in earlier versions for three months. if you’re on Windows, take a look at it.
  • There’s been a burst of blogging on Romans 7, and in particular who is meant by “I”. Michael Bird started off, and was picked up by Loren Rosson. Michael posted again, and Loren replied again, audaciously calling his post the last word. The whole exchange is worth reading. Apparently in isolation from that blog debate Theo Geek Andrew also wrote two posts on the topic. There seems to be general agreement that it is an example of prosōpopoiia or speech-in-character. There’s disagreement over who’s speaking. My own vote, tentatively, goes to Adam.
  • Most amusing post title (I think unintentionally) was Son of Man to Play at BFM Film Festival. My blog reader doesn’t show italics in post titles, so I didn’t see that Son of Man was an italicized title. My immediate reaction was to wonder what he was going to play.
  • Not many weeks seem to go by without a new post on biblical canons. In Canon(s) or Canonical? Kevin Edgecomb offers an Orthodox take that is subtly different to most of the posts I’ve read (or indeed written) on the subject.
  • If you missed his notice about it, its well worth pointing students and others to Danny Zacharias’ Biblical Studies Glossary on Deinde. A truly useful tool.
  • Peter Kirk, whose changed the name of his blog to Gentle Wisdom, introduced me to a new blog. I warmly commend the thinking of Henry Neufeld to you.
  • For those who groan at the mumblings of creationists, take a moment of enjoyable bliss with this wonderful cartoon unearthed by Ben Myers.
  • Don’t just get stuck on Biblical Studies Carnivals: try the Patristics Carnival as well.
  • Finally, whatever else you look at, see this Targuman post. As Kevin Wilson put it: “Christ Brainy at Targuman has a grate video upon his sight.” I am knot a bell to rite a butter sent ends to descry bit.

I wrote a response to Kevin’s on canon. He turned ’round and walloped me good in the comment section to mine. Thought you might like to know.

Thanks for the mention of the glossary. I’m glad people are finding it helpful!
