Doublespeak

I note with fascination the wording of Appleinsider’s lead-in to a story about an update for Mac OS X.

Continuing to refine its recently-released Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system at a rapid pace, Mac maker Apple Inc. will soon begin testing the first pre-release builds of Mac OS X 10.5.2 Update, AppleInsider has learned.

Consider what they might have said if a second service pack had been released for Windows Vista only two months after the product went on sale:

Microsoft’s hurry to release yet another bug-fix proves Vista was released to the public to meet a marketing deadline long before it was ready for public use. When will Gates’ Evil Empire stop treating its customers like suckers?

One of the biggest reasons for getting turned off Apple is the cult-like behaviour of its mindless devotees who have been caught up in Steve Jobs’ reality distortion field. I’m thinking of whether I might buy a Mac next time I replace my computer, and then I ask myself: do I really want to enter this twilight zone?
