What counts for journalism? UFO
A seriously mad story in today’s free Metro paper: UFO spotted over foggy car park? What makes this totally bizarre journalism is not the subject — UFO sightings are always good for a story, especially when matched with a strange photo. No, what’s strange is this paragraph:
UFO expert Hilary Porter, of the British Earth and Aerial Mysteries Society, last night confirmed it could be genuine. She said: ‘It would be very difficult to fake that photo and the UFO is at a tilt, which is the way they normally fly.’
This is written as though no-one could possibly take issue with the idea that there are UFO experts who know how they normally fly.
Yeah, right.
